Method

Profess ignorance about the topic in question. Say that it is outside of your area of expertise.

Play stupid. Act as if you just do not understand.

Refer them to somebody else. Point them somewhere away from yourself.

Sorry, I've no idea what you are talking about. How else can I help you today?

That's a very good question but I'm the wrong person to ask. Jim knows about that but he's not in today.

Discussion

By denying understanding or knowledge you effectively put the subject outside of a potential conversation. In this way you do not have to talk about the subject and cannot legitimately be expected to agree to anything.
