Advantage Claim
Disciplines > Advertising > Claims > Advantage Claim Description | Example | Discussion | See also
DescriptionThe Advantage claim asserts that what is being offered one or both of: (a) Has some advantage over competing products (b) Offers you some advantage that you cannot get elsewhere
Use words such as better, only, double, faster, smoother, etc. ExampleVitalux has twice the vitamins of other supplements. Benduit yoghurt: smoother than the rest. You'll rest better on a Bouncie bed. Tastier than other soups. DiscussionThe advantage claim pretends to be a straight benefit claim. The problem is that the advantage claimed, whether or not it is true, is not necessarily of any benefit at all (do you need 'twice the vitamins'?). See alsoUsing Comparatives and Superlatives
