When you are faced with a situation where change seems to required, one of the early activities is to investigate more fully, to understand context, causes and so on, so you can plan to implement changes that will actually improve things. This is no small trick as it is commonly quoted that 80% or more of change activities fail.

• Historical Review: History may repeat itself if you are not ready.
• Context Analysis: Internal and external factors that lead to the need for change.
• Cultural Analysis: Cultural shape will shape their approach to change.
• Structural Analysis: Function follows form (so understand this effect).
• Causal Analysis: Find the systemic and root causes.
• Change Complexity Analysis: Complexity of target drives complexity of method.
