Summary

When you move a curve into grey space with Affinity Photo, it becomes a contrast controller. Coupled with Contrast blend modes Overlay (and the few below it), you have a lot of control over light and dark across the image.

A note with this: A 'grey' effect can be produced by using a Luminosity blend mode. However, this also uses up the available blend mode. By switching on Grey space (very easy in Affinity Photo) you then have the blend mode still available for creating further effects.
