Summary

The HSL control in Affinity Photo has a neat colour wheel selection method. It would be nice if this was available as a general colour selection tool, but (as of recording this) is not implemented. So I thought I'd find a way of doing this, along with adding a few other tweaks.

Formulas you can cut/paste to use in the Procedural Texture layer include:

Basic selection: max(R,G,B)-min(R,G,B)
Stronger selection: (max(R,G,B)-min(R,G,B))/max(R,G,B)
Strongest selection: roundup((max(R,G,B)-min(R,G,B))/max(R,G,B))

The layers used are:

HSL, with colour selected by individual colour wheel 'dot' filter method
Procedural Texture, with only 'A' and formula from above
Mask, to paint black on to remove unwanted area
Gaussian Blur, to soften edges
