Summary

When you have a dull landscape image, by increasing the saturation of the foreground and decreasing the background, you add punch to the foreground and add a sense of depth which you normally experience as atmospheric haze reduces apparent saturation of distant objects.

Extra tip: You can control the effect by varying the gradient using the little horizontal bar half-way up the gradient line.
