Teaching set

Tiger Secret Teachings 4.9 (39)

Observed lessons

  • When deep in enemy territory, ensure you know the territory to your advantage (including for retreat).
  • Guard pinch points (bridges, fords, ravines, passes, etc.) where your way could be cut off.
  • Have three armies, with one that can give reinforcement quickly and one further back out of harm's way.

Discussion

Understanding the road ahead is always important, as is understanding the land all around. Attacks when forging ahead can come from any direction.

Having backup troops out of sight is a good move that can turn around a battle. With fresh troops able to arrive later, this gives a double backup that can add further surprise and let the opposing army think 'How many more troops do they have??'
