Chapter

First part : 3 : 8

Observed lessons

  • Ensure stables are clean and comfortable.
  • Feed horses well, but do not over-feed them.
  • Groom horses and train them well so they are fit for their work.
  • Ensure all equipment, such as saddles and bits are in good order.
  • Share use of horses so no soldiers become excessively tired.

Discussion

The principles here can be also applied to machines such as trucks, tanks and so on. Keep them clean so you can see any problems with them (and soldiers feel a sense of discipline around them). Maintain them so they do not fail in combat. Keep spares for ad-hoc fixes. Ensure you have plenty of fuel. And let soldiers ride in them if they have to walk at other times.
