DescriptionA 'release period' is a time when the subject is 'let off the leash' and allowed to do what they like for a while. Release periods should be included in the schedule of learning and may be an additional form of reward for paying attention and learning. When and where a release period should be, and how long it should be, may vary with the ExampleA dog owner spends 30 minutes in focused training with their pet. They then let them run off in the field they are in, running and playing with the dog, which seems to love doing this. Schools have break periods through the day when students can relax and interact with one another. DiscussionLearning is tiring. The human brain uses about 25% of the body's energy resources, even though it is only around 5% of the body's mass. While this may vary with animals, the principle is similar. The effect can be seen in a lack of attention and slower learning. A break from learning can let the subject get some fresh air and activity that lets them get rid of any built up stress and readies them for more learning at a later time. See also
