 Escalation

Techniques > Resisting persuasion >  Escalation

Method | Example | Discussion | See also

Method

If you are pressured into something, escalate the problem, complaining to those who can stand up for you.

At work, complain to your boss (or the boss of the person who is pressuring you).

At home, complain to the ombudsman or write to the customer support manager of the offending company.

If you cannot gain resolution with another person, seek arbitration, where a third party makes the decision that the warring parties cannot.

Example

A child is bullied. They tell the teacher. The teacher intervenes.

An old lady is pressured into signing an insurance deal. Her daughter complains to the insurance company, who, knowing that there are laws and industry standards, annul the contract.

Discussion

When you have difficulty in the pressured situation of being persuaded, there are many people who will stand up for you.
