Description

Hide the actual cost of some things, making them cheap or, even better, free.

Things you can make free include:

  • Samples and tasters
  • Packaging, storage and delivery
  • Parking and transportation
  • Meals and drinks
  • Setup and nstallation
  • Support and updates
  • Music and entertainment

Advertise this low cost or free aspect as a wonderful benefit on websites, in literature and in signs right in front of the customer.

Example

A bar give out free peanuts and offers to pay for taxis home for people who spend $100 in a night. The peanuts make people thirsty so they drink more, and the profit on the drinks easily covers the cost of the taxi (and more).

An online birthday business offers free gift wrapping, card writing and guaranteed delivery. They even include reminders and subscriptions for following years. Their prices are higher, but they allow birthday presents to be sorted out quickly and easily.

Discussion

People are more prepared to pay for some things than others as they value them more. If you can 'give away' those things they value less and add the cost to the things they value, they will consider the whole package to overall be better value than paying for things separately. It also makes life easier for them if there is one price to pay.
