We experience the world through our five senses of touch, taste, smell, sight and hearing. All other meaning and understanding is internally constructed. Casting metaphors directly at our senses thus makes for a very visceral and accessible experience, making these metaphors especially powerful.
Sensory metaphors are the counterpoint of physical metaphors: when you create something physical, it addresses the senses. See also |
