What does it all mean?

It's a question we all wonder from time to time and it's a puzzle that has kept philosophers and mystics busy for millennia.

Why are we here? Singer Cilla Black asked 'What's it all about, Alfie?' back in the '60s and he's probably still thinking about it. Another question is 'Why do we need to know?' What is it that makes us wonder about our existence. As far as we know, we are the only animals that do this, although we may wonder whether the dolphins have got it sussed.

Such philosophical questions can be useful in persuasive situations. If you ask a question that the other person cannot easily answer, they will likely fall into a state of deep thought in which they may question fundamental tenets. In this state they may be highly suggestible and open to all kinds of new ideas.

My kitchen sink philosophy of why we are here, by the way, is to figure out why. The meaning of life is to find meaning. This may seem like recursive cynicism but it at least keeps me musing through long nights. It also leads to happiness -- the person whose life has little meaning for them is not a happy bunny.

Hoppitty hop...
