Deconstruction
Explanations > Critical Theory > Deconstruction Description | Discussion | See also
DescriptionDeconstruction dismantles texts by showing that they are based on assumptions of binary opposites, such as good/evil, and then showing that those opposites are fluid and ambiguous and not as simple as they might first appear. By breaking boundaries created by existing definitions, Deconstruction thus challenges simple constructs and meanings. DiscussionDeconstruction can lead to significant new interpretations of texts. Derrida described deconstruction as an 'event' within the text, rather than a way of reading it. Derrida also applied deconstruction to itself, thus making it very difficult to extract the essence and hence define it in a stable way. See also |
