If you want to improve your willpower, there is nothing quite like real practice to get you going. In doing so, it is a good idea to start with willpower as self-control before imposing your will on others, trying to tell them what to do. Below is a range of exercises you can undertake.

Do not over-do these! It is a common trap to start with lots of enthusiasm, but in doing so set an unmanageable schedule of activity that you soon tire of, excusing yourself for not doing things. It is far better to do little on a regular basis than start by doing a lot and then fade back to 'normal'. If you learn one thing in these exercises, then it should be to avoid unthinking automatic responses. Think before doing anything then act with conscious choice. See also
