A nice things is the way that all pages are complete in themselves, so you can dip into the book and just read a single, integrated page at any time.

This website is mostly text. The book makes good use of simple and clear diagrams to show how our mental internal work (and consequently how they can be effectively changed).

 

 

There are many, many techniques described, including examples, such as below.

 

 

Changing minds has a lot to with learning and key models such as the ones below are described for you to use:

 

 

The detail includes how mental processes work. For example as below we forecast what will happen. When things do not happen as expected we change our approach but not our underlying purpose. At least not initially, which is where persuasive processes come into play!

 

 

There's a lot to cover and a lot of tables are used to summarize models and principles you can use. Here is one that shows just a few of the traps that people fall into when making decision (there are more on the following page).

 

 

Diagrams are used throughout to show patterns such as the way we transition between mental states, as in the page below.

 

 

Trust is a core part of the process and it is covered in careful detail. When you understand the principles of transaction cost and trust boundaries (amongst others) you can make better decisions and influence more effectively.

 

 

Persuasion is not just about getting a 'yes' -- it means managing ongoing commitment. Pages such as the one below give you models and methods for sustaining a powerful commitment to you and your needs.

 

 

Towards the end of the book some additional but powerful principles are given, such as the deep, deep need for both sides of the integration-isolation conflict. The more you understand how people, the more powerful you will become in your ability to change their minds.

 

 

There's a significant set of references, with one section per chapter. This has not been over-done, though, as the book is primarily a practical manual.
